Nairobi county senator Johnson Sakaja Clash with ODM SG Edwin Sifuna over Sonko’s arrest.

A war of words has ensued between Nairobi’s senator Johnson Sakaja and his erstwhile opponent in 2017 and ODM sg MR. Sifuna Edwin over Governor Sonko’s brief detention and disruption of his meeting with Nairobi county Mcas yesterday.

The besieged governor had convened an informal meeting with Mcas loyal to him to chart the way forward on the impending motion of impeachment that is to be tabled on Thursday this week.

The meeting that was taking place on Nairobi’s riverside drive was broken up by police who threw teargas canisters and briefly detained the city governor over what they called bleach of covid 19 rules.

This did not go down with the Nairobi county senator who took to his Twitter and condemned the incident terming it an affluence to citizen’s rights to assembly.

Below is Hon Sakaja’s tweet that the odm sg found offensive…

@sakajajohnson; Arresting @Mikesonkofor meeting MCAs in the week of his impending impeachment is nothing short of using the police for politics. Just as happened in Senate, this must be condemned whether you support the governor or not. Let’s not claw back on democracy using COVID as an excuse

In  a swift rejoinder the odm sg tweeted back.

Senator @SakajaJohnson

tell the people who elected you the truth. There were crimes actively being committed at that meeting chief among them bribery of MCAs to abandon the impeachment drive. When did you turn into a sympathizer for corruption?

This tweet did not go unchallenged as Sakaja came back guns blazing..

Let me tell the people who voted for me (you included, I suspect); if they arrested the Governor for bribery, why has he been released? Has he been charged for bribery? Why weren’t the recipients of bribes arrested as well?

this fight went on with Nairobians taking sides with either Sifuna or Sakaja depending on one’s political inclination.

Whether Sakaja won or Sifuna won is a story for another day.

In another story, Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja has called on Nms to stop Radison blue hotel from subjecting Nairobians visiting Aboretum to security checks.

It is reported that Radisson blue hotel has mounted a barrier on a public road next to its hotel and whoever is passing by to access Arboretum is screened which Sakaja termed as not only inconveniencing Nairobians but also illegal.

The Nairobi Arboretum is a public space that many Nairobians enjoy. The road leading up to it is also a public road. A private entity (Radisson) has put up a barrier on this public road where members of the public are screened. I have asked @NMS_Kenya
to deal ASAP
