While unveiling ANC’s party candidate for the upcoming Matungu by-election, the ANC leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi spelled out why the economy is on death row. He said,
I understand the government’s desperation to increase taxes. But the government should know it’s taxing people who’re sick. They’re sick because they cannot get treatment in hospitals. Hospitals are closed or helpless because the staff is on strike.”
He further said ” Staff is on strike because the government has refused to talk to them about their welfare. The government cannot tax sick people whom it has abandoned without medical care. Arrogance, threats, and intimidation will not open hospitals and treat the sick. By its actions government is ensuring Covid-19 will have a field day ravaging Kenyans.”
The ANC leader also said,
A paralyzed health system is a national security threat. If the government can find the money for things that aren’t emergencies, like BBI, let it find money to address the health worker’s grievances as an emergency. The government should open doors to talk with and stop talking at doctors and nurses. These are essential services personnel that deserve better treatment from govt than condemnation. He further took issue with the deputy president whom he symbolized as a cook who is running from the Kitchen after 8 years of squandering children’s food. The deputy president should be held responsible for the economic problems the country finds itself in. He should not cheat village folks that he is their savior while he has presided over a rotting economy for the last 8 years.
