Musalia Mudavadi has asked the governmet to be prepared to deal with our national debt, face our creditors to renegotiate terms and get some debt written off.
The Anc boss was speaking live on citizen tv on how the government should prepare post covid 19. Mudavadi further said workers were at an abnormal stage even as jobs were being lost
” It is an abnormal time for all workers. We do not know how long the coronavirus will be with us. We need to look at how incentives can become policy to help hoteliers and other players in our economy” Mudavadi said.
The former depuy prime minister questioned government’s short term arrangement which history has proved that do not spur economic growth. Sighting the kazi kwa vijana and Sgr projects. Mudavadi said with the sgr project all raw materials were sourced from India while KKV project ended in peoples pockets.
Contractors and suppliers are yet to be paid, despite Presidential Directive.
The government has a high appetite for other programmes which are exerting pressure on KRA. We should stop setting targets to KRA at this moment. There is a need to restructure our debt portfolio, to give the economy the required impetus for a comeback.
” We need to work on long term arrangements post the pandemic. When we look at govt projects, have they stimulated the economy enough? the answer is no” Mudavadi observed.
On his ambition in 2022 Hon. Mudavadi said,
“My dream is to have a country that is united & focused on Economic Recovery” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi did not spare fellow politicians on their behaviors during this pandemic. “The conduct of political leaders is giving politics a bad name. Leaders are contravening the set out regulations meant to combat covid 19.It’s a golden opportunity for voters to look at the Kenyan Leadership afresh and make informed decisions come 2022” Added Mudavadi
