Andabwa: Calls for protection of security guards against Covid-19 amid recent police brutality.

The Kenya National Private Security Workers Union (KNPSWU) General secretary Bro. Isaac Andabwa has called on employers of security personel to ensure there is maximum protection of guards against covid- 19. In his address to the media houses, Bro Andabwa observed that private security officers are the first persons at the frontline of the fight and by virtue of their duties hence protecting them against the spread of Covid- 19 was of higher priority.

“I call upon all employers to consider it as a matter of urgency the provision of protective gears to all our security staff at their assignments. Masks, gloves and sanitizers should be provided as a mandatory because these officers are the first in line of contact with anybody entering or exiting any premises” Andabwa said.

Further more, Bro Andabwa has appealed to the national police service to treat private security guards with respect and honor because on matters security, because they compliment each other. Andabwa took issue with the manner in which guards were treated during the first day of curfew.

“We have noted with deep regrets how police officers while on duty descended on guards returning from work beating them up despite them producing their job’s identification. We call upon IPOA to look into this matter as we appeal to the national police service to treat guards well ” Mr Andabwa added.

Bro Andabwa has urged all players in the security industry to actively engage in the war against covid 19 while taking into account the role played by guards on duty. He further called on friends of guards, employers, well wishers, and loving Kenyans to go out of their way and donate sanitizers and protective gear to our security guards. By taking a wholistic approach we shall all defeat covid 19 together.

“I also call upon Saccos and banks that have mutual understanding with security guards to make available small loans to help our guards buy protective gears to protect themselves from the virus while on duty. This can be actualized via mobile money transfer” Andabwa said.

Brother Andabwa further urged employers to consider suspending annual leave for security guards so that movement of travelling up country can be restricted and thus protecting the guards from any infections.
