Bright Shitemi: The Social Justice Crusader Seeking to Reset Dagoretti North Politics Ahead of 2027

As the 2027 General Election approaches, Dagoretti North has become a battleground of ideas, ambition, and renewed political energy. Several aspirants have declared their interest in unseating the incumbent MP. While many have hit the ground running with campaigns and promises, one candidate is steadily carving a distinct path — Bright Shitemi: The Social Justice Crusader Seeking to Reset Dagoretti North Politics Ahead of 2027

Good Morning Kenya caught up with Shitemi in Vihiga County during the Linda Mwananchi caravan to better understand his drive, ideology, and vision for Dagoretti North.

A seasoned social justice crusader, Shitemi describes himself as battle-hardened in the fight for equality and rule of law. To him, a just society governed by fairness and accountability is not just political rhetoric , it is a sacred principle worth defending at all costs.

For me, politics isn’t just about sloganeering and colourful manifestos. I believe in a just society where the rule of law is upheld, equality is guaranteed, and the lives of our people are improved. I am a strong believer in social justice, and whenever I see injustice perpetrated on one person, it means an entire society has been hit,” he says.

A Vision Rooted in Service, Not Politics

Shitemi sets himself apart by rejecting the conventional politician label. Instead, he describes himself as a servant of the people determined to transform lives.

Dagoretti North is home to more than 300,000 residents, with the population steadily rising due to rural-urban migration. As a largely informal settlement, the constituency grapples with crime, drug abuse, unemployment, and underdeveloped infrastructure challenges Shitemi believes require urgent and structured intervention.

Dagoretti North is home to over 300,000 people, and the population keeps growing daily. Crime, drug abuse, unemployment, and underdeveloped infrastructure remain top among the issues crying for our collective attention. I will prioritise these and put structures in place to help fix Dagoretti North,” he states confidently.

Shitemi Foundation: Action Beyond Words

When asked what he is currently doing to address these pressing issues, Shitemi points to the work of the Shitemi Foundation.

Across Dagoretti North, permanent boda boda shades erected through the foundation offer riders shelter from scorching sun and heavy rains — visible symbols of grassroots intervention.
Beyond infrastructure support, the foundation has tackled health and sanitation challenges in Kawangware slums by organizing coordinated fumigation exercises to combat bedbug infestations.

There is no dignity in poverty. When my people cried out about bedbug infestations, we rolled out a programme working closely with village leaders to fumigate several households. I am filled with immense joy when families tell me they can now sleep peacefully. Bedbugs can be a serious nuisance,” he explains.

The foundation has also been at the forefront during disasters, including fires and floods, mobilizing food supplies, bedding, and clothing to help affected families rebuild their lives.
As schools reopen, the foundation continues to support needy families in returning their children to school — underscoring Shitemi’s conviction that education remains the greatest equalizer.

Why Linda Mwananchi?

With multiple political formations shaping Kenya’s political landscape, Shitemi was asked why he chose to align himself with Linda Mwananchi.

My vision for Kenya aligns closely with the ideals of the Linda Mwananchi movement. I am a solid disciple of Linda Mwananchi. We stand for social justice, economic emancipation of our people, and above all, strict adherence to the rule of law where the rights enshrined in our Constitution are upheld. I am Sifunated,” he concludes.

Blending youthfulness with political maturity, Bright Shitemi appears determined to recalibrate the political conversation in Dagoretti North. For this young aspirant, the only thing standing between him and destiny may well be time.
Will Shitemi upset the apple cart and ride his “Wantam” wave into Parliament as the next Member of Parliament for Dagoretti North?
