Former County Executive Geofffrey Mosiria Breaks Silence Following Sacking, Announces Gubernatorial Ambitions

NAIROBI, KENYA — Former Nairobi County Executive Committee member Geoffrey Mosiria has spoken out following his official dismissal, characterizing the move as the culmination of a prolonged campaign of political marginalization and retaliation stemming from his refusal to approve direct procurements.

In a detailed public statement released following the announcement of his removal, Mosiria claimed his operational authority had been stripped as early as December 28, 2023. According to Mosiria, his constitutionally assigned duties as an Accounting Officer were unprocedurally transferred to junior officers after he resisted pressure to favor specific contractors connected to senior county administration figures.

“What remains unsaid to the residents of Nairobi and the people of Kenya is that my effective dismissal occurred on December 28, 2023,” Mosiria stated. “On that day, my mandate was unprocedurally stripped and handed to my subordinates.”

Mosiria further alleged that following the procurement dispute, the budgetary allocation for his health docket was drastically slashed from KES 1.2 Billion to KES 100 Million, severely constraining operational capabilities.

The statement outlines a timeline of subsequent reassignments within city hall—first to the Environment docket and later to Customer Service, Public Participation, and Citizen Engagement. Mosiria alleged that during his tenure in Environment, directives were issued to ensure departmental directors bypassed his office, prompting him to personally lead field operations on the ground to maintain public service delivery.

He also addressed past legal challenges, describing a previous court case that carried the threat of a six-month jail term for contempt of court as an orchestrated effort to force his exit from office.

Looking forward, Mosiria expressed gratitude to Nairobi residents who have called on him to contest the county’s top seat, signaling his intent to launch a campaign for the Nairobi Gubernatorial position.

“I am deeply humbled that the people of Nairobi are calling on me to serve as their Governor. I have endured the challenges, learned from the adversity, and stand fully prepared to lead,” Mosiria declared, adding that his primary objective remains system reform rather than personal political conflict.

Addressing reports of potential upcoming legal actions against him, Mosiria expressed confidence in the judgment of the electorate, stating he trusts the public to distinguish between genuine public service and politically motivated prosecution.
