Education key to our country”s growth” Says Elachi as she gives bursaries to Dagoretti North
Dogoretti North MP Hon Beatrice Elachi has for the second day running issued bursaries to needy students in her constituency.
In line with her campaign manifesto of ensuring that Dagoretti North leads in having as many students in schools, Hon Elachi has pitched camp in the constituency just one week before schools open.
While addressing a mammoth crowd that had gathered at Lavington primary school the venue for the bursary issuance for all the 5 wards of Dagoretti North, Hon Elachi asked parents to be vigilant in ensuring those children who fall in the school going bracket are in school.
“I want to challenge fellow parents and the community at large, let us take this matter seriously. Let us all ensure we help our children acquire education. The job market is so competitive and without proper education, our children will not be in a position to compete with the rest of the world. As your area MP I want to give you my word that I will try my level best in ensuring our children go to school” said Elachi.
The area MP further warned parents against encouraging their young boys who are supposed to be in school from boda boda business.
“Boda boda business is good but please, let us not allow young boys who are otherwise supposed to be in class to venture into that line of trade. Those who have completed their secondary school exams we have several TVets around. My office will work hans in hand with all of you to ensure our children acquire the requisite skills necessary for the growth of our economy” added Elachi.
In her first 100 days in office as MP, Hon Elachi has helped establish school feeding programmes, assisted over 20 students join secondary school, lobbied to have road network in Dagoretti North upgraded, among other projects.
Besides issuance of bursaries, Elachi has established a vibrant youth and women networks where several development initiatives are currently underway.
“My mantra has always been, to help empower my people by giving them a fishing rod as opposed to the old way of giving them fish. If I show them how to fish and or how to build a hatchery/fish pond, the entire community of Dagoretti North will have enough fish for local consumption and for export too” continued Elachi.
On Monday Kawangware ward residents received bursaries from the MP, on Tuesday it was Kabiro ward while on Wednesday it will be for Gatina while Thursday and Friday will be the turn for Kileleshwa and Kilimani Wards respectively
