Via The Don. With the race for the Nairobi County Woman Representative Seat slowly gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election, Hon. Millicent Omanga is steadily sending a clear message that her bid for leadership will be anchored on service, impact and direct investment in the lives of ordinary Nairobi residents.
Popularly known as Mama Miradi, Hon. Millicent Omanga on Thursday intensified her grassroots empowerment agenda after officially launching the Free Omanga Care Sanitary Towels Initiative at Ainsworth Primary School — a programme aimed at ensuring that thousands of school-going girls across Nairobi can stay in school without being held back by lack of access to basic menstrual hygiene products.
The launch was more than just another public event. It carried deep emotional significance for Omanga, who returned to Ainsworth Primary School, the very institution where her own educational journey began in the 1990s. Accompanied by her children Wayne and Maya, Omanga described the moment as a reminder of how far she has come and why leadership must ultimately be about creating opportunities for others. Addressing students, teachers and members of the community, she passionately spoke on an issue that continues to silently affect thousands of girls across the country — period poverty.
“No girl should be forced to miss school simply because she cannot afford a sanitary towel. Education is a right and dignity is non-negotiable. We must create a society where every girl has the confidence and support needed to pursue her dreams uninterrupted,” she said.
The Free Omanga Care Sanitary Towels Initiative is expected to reach primary schools across Nairobi County, directly benefiting thousands of young girls by providing essential menstrual hygiene products and reducing one of the major barriers affecting consistent school attendance among vulnerable learners.
But beyond sanitary towel distribution, the programme reflects Omanga’s broader political philosophy — leadership driven by practical solutions rather than empty campaign rhetoric. Her focus, she says, remains firmly on empowering children, strengthening families, improving education outcomes and restoring hope within communities that have long felt neglected.
“When we keep a girl child in school, we secure the future of families, strengthen communities and build a stronger nation. Real leadership is measured by service to the people and the courage to act where change is needed most,” she added.
As political temperatures begin rising ahead of Nairobi’s fiercely anticipated 2027 electoral contests, Omanga is increasingly positioning herself as a candidate seeking to win public trust through visible action and people-centered development programmes rather than conventional political promises. For many political observers, her latest initiative reinforces a growing narrative that Mama Miradi is not waiting for campaign season to engage the electorate — she is already building her connection with Nairobi residents through programmes that directly address real social challenges affecting women, children and vulnerable families.
As the battle for Nairobi’s Woman Representative seat gradually takes shape, one thing is becoming evident — Hon. Millicent Omanga is crafting a political brand built around service delivery, empowerment and measurable impact. And if current developments are anything to go by, Mama Miradi is determined to make 2027 a contest defined not by slogans, but by action on the ground. Story by Bryson Nga’nga, Nairobi
