King Elvis Rupia Joins a rare class of Hat trick legends after scoring 3 against Sofapaka

A hat trick occurs when a player scores 3 goals in a match. It was called so because after the match, fans would pass a hat around for fans to collect money which would be given to the player. Nowadays a player just carries the ball away.

Joe Kadenge remains the King of hat tricks.

Joe Kadenge(R.i.p) leads on hat tricks scored (4) followed by his son Francis Kadenge(R.i.p) on 3 tied with Dr. J.J. Masiga and Livingstone Madegwa.

Wilberforce Mulamba and William Inganga have 2 hat tricks each. Madegwa scored two hat tricks in the same match. Anthony Ojiambo and Madegwa together with Mulamba and Nahashon Mahila scored a pair of hat tricks on the same day.

I wouldn’t finish this without talking about Masiga. Charles Ombongi, the Shabana player broke his leg in the match played on 21.08.85. Masiga, who had scored two minutes before his injury and who had scored a hat trick earlier that year, was out of action for two years and on his first match in his return to the league on 15.03.87, he scored a hat trick! That was ten years after his first hat trick for the club.

Rupia makes history at Kasarani.

In what was billed as the cats derby, both teams aporoached the match with caution. For 45mins no goals had been scored but come second half, the leopards showed its true colors. Elvis Rupia the assasin in chief took matters in his hands with Peter Thiong’o stepping up to conduct the orchestra. In the posts,Ugandan import Benjamin Ochan proved to be a safe pair of hands as team captain Robinson Kamura provided a defensive cover.

By scoring today’s hat trick, Rupia becomes the only Ingwe player to score a hat trick at the prestigious MSC Kasarani (some may say it wasnt the main stadium but it is Kasarani nevertheless).

To Elvis Rupia aka Machapo, you have 3 more hatricks to equal Joe Kadenge. Goodluck!
