AFC Leopards stayed top of the FKF Premier League on Sunday with a dominant 4–0 victory over Tusker, featuring a sensational hat-trick from Samuel Ssenyonjo, as archrivals Gor Mahia played to a barren 0–0 draw against Shabana in Gusii. The result has left fans and pundits alike declaring: Ingwe is unstoppable. A New Era at Ingwe At the heart of AFC Leopards’ revival is the Ambani brothers, who have brought bold leadership and ambition to the club. Supporting them is the dynamic triumvirate of SG Isaac Mulindi and Treasurer Newton Lime, driving a vision that combines professionalism, discipline, and faith.
“It’s all about discipline, hard work, determination, and belief in God. The players have bought into this vision, and it shows on the pitch,” said Isaac Mulindi.
President Bonface Ambani added:
“It’s tactical acumen, the grace of God, our loving and loyal fans, and the hunger to carry the trophy, which I last lifted as a player in 1998, that is pushing this team forward.”
Ssenyonjo’s Hat-Trick Joins a Modern-Day Legendary List
The game at Nyayo Stadium saw Ssenyonjo open the scoring in the 13th minute after a perfectly weighted pass from Tyson Otieno to James Kinyanjui, who cut the ball back for the finish. Ssenyonjo added his second in the 23rd minute after a Tusker defensive mix-up. Early in the second half, Ssenyonjo turned provider, setting up Ronald Sichenje for the third goal in the 48th minute. He then completed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute with a penalty he earned himself, taking his season tally to four goals and sealing a comprehensive win. This makes Ssenyonjo the fourth AFC Leopards player to score a hat-trick since 2009:
Du Monde Selenga vs KCB (3-4 win) – 2010, City Stadium John Makwatta vs Wazito (3-0 win) – Bukhungu Stadium Victor Omune vs Talanta (6-2 win) – Nyayo Stadium, 2023 Samuel Ssenyonjo vs Tusker (4-0 win) – Nyayo Stadium, 2026
Despite Ssenyonjo’s feat, Joe Kadenge still holds the record for most hat-tricks in club history, a record that has stood since the 1960s.
Dominant Performance Across the Field AFC Leopards were ruthless in midfield, with Tyson Otieno dictating play, Kelly Madada providing fluid ball movement, and Kinyanjui’s wide play stretching the Tusker defense. The team’s cohesive attacking style and clinical finishing left Tusker chasing shadows all game.
“The boys believe in themselves. We have a clear plan, and they are executing it perfectly,” said the gaffer.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia and Shabana drew 0–0 in Kisii. Despite a vibrant crowd and a heated contest, both sides cancelled each other out. The draw leaves Gor Mahia trailing AFC Leopards at the top on goal difference, while Shabana remain winless against their fierce rivals. Ingwe Looks Unstoppable
