The AFC Leopards National Executive Committee today unveiled an eight member Task Force to engage the club community on transforming Kenya’s oldest and most supported club from a patronage based society to an investor- attractive corporate entity.
At a press conference held at a Nairobi hotel, Leopards Chairman Dr.Dan Shikanda mandated the committee to reach out to all registered members of the club countrywide and beyond through the extensive branch network and document their views on the club adapting a more progressive corporate structure.
The Task Force was also mandated to carry out civic education to members about the advantages of the new structure and also bench mark on similar models in other jurisdictions in Africa and beyond.
The Task Force was given a six months period to complete its work and present a blueprint to the NEC with the view to it being put to members vote at the next General Meeting. Members of the Task Force include Vincent Shimoli(Chairman), Alex Muteshi(Treasurer), Richard Ekhalie(former AFC
Leopards CEO) and Nelly Mwashi.Others are Ng’arua Kamuya, Bramwel Aino, Clarence Jumba and Laureen Aseka Okambo.
The Task Force will be domiciled at club’s offices at Upper hill Nairobi but will be required to source its own funds for operations.
While accepting the appointment, Chairman Shimoli, who also doubled as Ingwe@60 chair, urged Ingwe fraternity to come out in large numbers to participate in the process so as to own it.
Richard Ekhalie, on his part asked club stakeholders to look at the bigger picture and be part of history to propel the club to the next level. He clarified that a Corporate AFC Leopards will still retain its community status with only governance structure changing from society to a Public Limited Company.
While thanking the club for foresight, Alex Muteshi (also the patron of the club) was confident that
the Task Force will deliver its mandate on time
