Kakamega Governor Hon Oparanya has ordered the immidiate closure of all public mortuaries in the county as he seeks means to stop the spread of deadly corona virus.
The county boss has requested all bereaved families in the county to collect their loved ones from the morgue and bury them immediately to avoid possible spread of Covid 19.
He said, all bodies will be charged standard fees. He has ordered the mortuary not to admit more dead bodies.
As much as this is a step in the right direction many locals complained that diaposing the dead immidiately was working against their tradition.
Tobias Shiveka from Shinyalu wondered how he will dispose off the remains of his dead father immidiately.
“My old man has gone to be with our forefathers, our tradition demands we mourn him for at least four days and before we bury him, his children who are as far as Lamu must attend. We find Oparanya’s directive hard to impliment” lamented Mr Shiveka.
