Hon David Ayoi : Fidelity to the electorate, Servant leadership and Fear of God is a whole-mark of a leader

“Transformative leadership entails listening to people and putting your people before self. Everyday I wake up from my bed to go start my duty as Gatina ward MCA I always strive to help change the fortunes of the great people of Gatina ward. That is the least I can do to them to repay them for their confidence in electing me “

Hon Ayoi.

Representing people at the Ward level has its challenges especially in an informal settlement like Gatina area of Nairobi county.

Whereas the main work for an MCA is representation, legislation and oversight, many a times people demand more than that.

“The African set up is configured in such a way that those in positions of leadership should try and help fix personal problems too. Many a times we are faced with food, rent, transport challenges from our people and we try as much to help them” Says Hon Ayoi David. His Kitasuru counterpart Hon Palapala too shares in the sentiments.

Keeping the Promise made to voters.
During his campaign, Hon Ayoi outlined a few issues that he thought needed his urgent attention once elected.
He listed them as below and called them the big 5
* Road network
* Water and sanitation & Sewage
* Lighting and security
* Health and Youth    Empowernment.
* Education.

Road network
“By God’s grace we have managed to build feeder roads in Gatina Ward. Kamitha /Congo rd, Kamitha/Amboseli road, Muthiora rd, Salim rd are all at an advanced stage. We have been having small issues at county level but we have embarked on the final stage that will see them tarmaked soon” Ayoi added.

Education pillar
From the Ward rep education kitty, Hon Ayoi has managed to fairly disburse bursaries to over 1200 needy student and sponsored over 700 youth to driving schools most have gotten driving licences and are gainfully engaged in building the nation. To boost early learning, ECD classes are being put up at Gatina primary.

# Lighting, Security & Sewage line.
To enhance security to locals, Hon Ayoi embarked on lighting up the villages and now mama mbogas can sell their wares upto as late as 9pm without fear.

Sewage menace in Gatina has been a big issue just like in all other informal settlements. Under Ayoi’s watchful eye and his lobbying so far 2km of sewer line has been put up in Congo area and on Makosa road. Plans are still in place to have the two rivers running in Gatina well cleared for swift drainage.

“Due to unavailability of space, we have managed to put up an eco toilet facility which once completed will help provide a social hall for the youths besides using the biogas facility therein to supply power to surrounding areas” Said Hon Ayoi.

# Health and water issue in Gatina ward.
To help fix the perennial water issue in Gatina, Hon Ayoi employed a two way approach. He started by liasing with Nairobi water  company to have the area receive water using the water tanks twice a week. But as a lasting solution, Ayoi has successfully lobbied for the sinking of bore holes in Gatina area where Check point and Gatina pri school are already operational while Congo area is to be completed and operationalise soon. Those operating are dispensing over 1000cm3  cubic of water free of charge. The water is clean and treated having been pumped into Nairobi water piping systems for purification before being let out for wananchi to use at no fee.

# Health pillar.
“It is sad that Gatina ward has no public health facility. Cognisant of this, I have succefully lobbied for the construction of a level 3 hospital facility next to Dagoretti mixed High school. The engneers are already on the ground and work has earnestly started. Once complete our people will have the prestige of just walking into the facility as opposed to the way things are now where they have to either rush to Mbagathi or Mama Lucy hosp” Hon Ayoi Adds.

Laying ground for Gatina level 3 hospital the first one ever in Dagoretti North.

“Iam a strong believer in the clarion ‘Service to humanity is service to God. I want to implore all the great people of Gatina to work hand in hand with me as we strive to make Gatina a better place for our future generation” He concludes
