Nigeria receives stolen money 300 Million USD from US and Britain

Nigeria has received more than $300m that were looted by the former military ruler, Sani Abacha.

Abacha and his family are alleged to have embezzled $1 billion – $5 billion.

The money was returned from the US and the British dependency of Jersey.

Under a repatriation agreement between Nigeria and the Western Countries, it is to be spent on infrastructure projects.

Gen Abacha ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. Abacha died in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. He was buried on the same day, according to Muslm tradition, without an autopsy. This fuelled speculation that he may have been assasinated. The government identified the cause of death as a sudden heart attack.

Switzerland is believed to have returned around $1bn over the last decade.
