Exactly seven years ago, Afc leopards found themselves in the same predicament faced by both Mathare FC, Zoo Fc, and Gor Mahia FC.

The bone of contention was a deal that Ingwe had signed with ZUKU  which was expected to turn around the fortunes of one of the oldest club in the country ie AFC leopards.

At the time of signing the deal, Ingwe officials were at loggerheads the same way Rachier and his secretary-general are at war over the smart Tv deal.

Dr. Walter Onyino the then club vice-chairman had signed the deal while the club chairman Alex Ole Magelo was of the view that the deal was not good for Ingwe’s continued participation in Kpl and was jeopardizing the good money the club was getting from  Supersport.

Rachier’s silence during AFC leopards crisis with Kpl was deafening…

All this while, Gor Mahia’s chairman Ambrose Rachier was in bed with Kpl which was then led by Tusker’s Musyoki as Jack Oguda pulled the strings as its CEO. Mathare’s  Bob Munro being a founder member of Kpl too kept silent simply because the shoe was on the other leg.

It baffles many soccer lovers to see both Munro and Rachier up in arms yet 7 years ago when Ingwe was seeking the justice they never stood by the leopard.

Afc leopards should not shade a tear over Mathare, Gor and Zoo Kericho..

On June 24th, during an Annual General Meeting held at Panari Hotel, Afc leopards were given a 24-hour ultimatum to fold out of the deal with Zuku or face expulsion from Kpl.

This was a trying moment for AFC leopards which had discovered an alternative way of making an extra coin.

‘’Kpl has its rules which every club must adhere to. It is the second time we are having problems with Leopards. Two years ago, they tried to enter into a similar deal with a SMART TV. We raised concerns and they canceled it. We expect them to do the same thing,” Oguda roared as both Rachier and Munro cheered him on.

The then KPL chairman, James Musyoki, at the same time, said the stand-off between Leopards and broadcast rights holders SuperSport had already begun affecting all clubs as the latter has withheld their grants for the other clubs.

“For this reason, we are asking Leopards to immediately terminate the deal by Monday, June 24 at 5 pm and do the same in writing, failure to which we will suspend them from the league without any further warning,” said Musyoki.

Musyoki said the deal between AFC and Zuku was an infringement on a deal between the company and SuperSport as this does not allow for secondary partners.

As soccer lovers, we now ask of Rachier, what has changed, or is it simply because the management of the league shifted from the Oguda/ Munro led the crew to now Fkf?

Rachier should stop his hypocrisy and greed and instead play by the rules that are currently governing the league in Kenya. After all, there are rules that must be followed.

I applaud my chairman Dan Shikanda(AFC Leopards chairman ) for not shading a tear over Gor, Zoo and Mathare’s self-inflicted pain.
