We the Kenyan Youths demand a space on the table as BBI debate takes shape- Samuel Mundia.
The conversation around BBI has taken shape barely a week after it was released to the public at Bomas.
The youths have not been left out in seeking to add their voice in pointing out the grey areas.
Hon Samuel Mundia a jubilee youth leader yesterday with a team of Nairobi youths in pointing out the issues that they too feel ought to have been captured.
“The BBI document is good but we strongly believe that it can be made better by recapturing some of the many points that address the plight our youth are facing directly.” Mundia said.
The over 100 youths later listed some of the points they badly want included in the report as below..
Representation –
We demand that youth representation in Kenya should now be taken MORE seriously. As our dear mothers get 47 county representation in the Senate, we demand that youth should be given a chance to elect their own to represent them in the National Assembly from all the 47 Counties.
HELB –
We demand that HELB should be a grant and not a loan.
# On youth Organs:
We demand the establishment of the STAND ALONE YOUTH MINISTRY with a Youth Cabinet Secretary, and strengthening the National Youth Council.
There is no need of adding more commission and we already have established bodies with the same mandate.
Expanded Executive
We demand that if the president is above 35 years the deputy should be a youth and the same should apply to the rest of the seats in the Executive
# on BBI and Referendum:
We are not supporting the referendum before young people’s problem are sorted out. Here are some of the issues that need to be addressed before we think of a referendum
The youths seem to be gravitating towards what Deputy president Hon Ruto and Hon Mudavadi have called “re opening the window for inclusivity”.
