Nairobi ODM Delegates Rally behind Aladwa as coalition Talks begin

For a long time, Nairobi has remained a political stronghold of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). As coalition talks gather momentum, Nairobi delegates are increasingly voicing their demand for the party to front George Aladwa as the broad-based gubernatorial candidate, urging the President’s party not to field a rival contender in the capital.

Hon. Aladwa, the current Member of Parliament for Makadara and ODM Nairobi Chairman, has already declared his interest in the gubernatorial seat. His leadership within the party has seen the strengthening of grassroots structures across wards and constituencies, positioning ODM as a dominant force in the city’s political landscape.

Leaders backing his bid argue that Aladwa’s deep understanding of Nairobi’s political dynamics, coupled with his experience as a former Mayor, gives him an edge in addressing the capital’s long-standing challenges — from service delivery and infrastructure to youth empowerment and economic inclusion.

He is also being fronted by leaders from the Luhya community, one of the largest communities in Nairobi, further consolidating his support base. However, beyond community backing, Aladwa is widely regarded as a seasoned mobilizer who connects effortlessly with both the youth and older generations.

Supporters maintain that his candidacy represents stability, party loyalty, and tested leadership. As coalition negotiations unfold, the push for a unified approach in Nairobi continues to grow, with delegates insisting that fronting Aladwa as the sole broad-based candidate would strengthen ODM’s bargaining power and secure victory in the capital.

Political observers now keenly watch whether coalition partners will heed the call from Nairobi delegates — or risk facing a divided contest in one of Kenya’s most strategic political battlegrounds.
