With months moving into weeks as weeks crawl into days , election fever has gripped AFC leopards Soccer club.

The oldest club in Kenya is yet again looking forward to a seamless transition. Before the promulgation of the club’s current constitution, leadership wrangles at the den used to define the club’s modus operandi. At one point the acronym AFC was corrupted to state Always Firing Coaches a scenario that was always applied by every new regime that toppled an existing one.

From 2010 we have witnessed some semblance of order thanks to the club’s constitution that defines how leaders are elected and their terms of service at the club.

With the term of the current office bearers coming to an end in June and with Dr Dan Shikanda un- eligible for another term after serving his two terms, many aspirants have declared their intentions to replace him.

Club Secretary General Gilbert Andugu not in the race.

Despite serving only one term, the current club SG Mr Gilbert Andugu has declared that he will not be defending his seat.

Andugu will be remembered for steering the club at the most crucial moment where the club was faced by the decision to choose between going corporate or remaining as a community club. This matter was brought to a vote and the members chose to remain a community club dealing a deadly blow to proponents of the moot led by former CeO Richard Ekhalie and Dan Shikanda. Andugu has been in and out of hospital for the past 8 Months which denied him ample time to execute his mandate as club SG which has informed his decision to step down.

Isaac is not new in matters AFC, his elder brother Dr Sobbie Mulindi was also a diehard fan and member of AFC leopards who rose to become chairman of AFC leopards.

Speaking to www.goodmorningKenya.com, Mulindi says that his vision for the club was driven by his inborn passion for the club.

“I grew up watching AFC leopards play, this bias decision was subconsciously made by virtue of my being a Luhya. AFC Leopards is the single most unifying entity in Luhyaland hence the resolve to jealously adore, support, protect and defend this heritage. IAM a leopard by birth” Mulindi.

Mr Mulindi believes that AFC should be in a different league competing at the continental level and beyond.

“I believe I have what it takes to help steer this club to new heights. It is unacceptable that since 1998 we haven’t won the league. Reclaiming our lost glory as a footballing powerhouse in this region will be my aim” Mulindi.

Mr Mulindi who will be launching his official bid this month will face six others on the ballot.

Sitawa Renee the only lady who has shown interest is joined by Robert Situma a long standing member, Prof Asava Kadima a former club official, Nyamu Nyamu a former aspirant for the position of EC member ,Jesse Tetei and Dennis Esikuri both new commers

Whatever happens, AFC Leopards will need to have men and women of integrity and zeal to take this club to the next level.
