Here is why Asec Mimosa is the best club in Ivory Coast.

Founded in the 20th century, ASEC Mimosas is the most successful club in Ivorian football with over 50 trophies, including league titles, CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup, Ivorian Cup, amongst others.

The club’s academy has produced notable players like Kolo Touré, Yaya Touré, Salomon Kalou, Bonaventure Kalou, Gervinho, Boubacar Barry, Didier Zokora, Emmanuel Eboué, Bakari Koné, Romaric, Aruna Dindane, Didier Ya Konan and Odilon Kossounou.

Jean-Marc Guillou was the club’s manager between 1993 and 2000 and also served as Sporting Director. Alongside Roger Ouégnin, he founded the club’s academy and they started scouting for young talents.

Guillou later became manager of Belgian side Beveren in 2001 and with his influence, a number of Ivorian players like Yaya Touré, Emmanuel Eboué, Arthur Boka, Gervinho, Boubacar Barry and Romaric got to play for Beveren, from where other European clubs showed interest in them.

Other notable players to have played for the club include Laurent Pokou, Eustache Manglé, Henry Nwosu, Hamed Hervé Diomandé, Benedict Iroha, Aristide Bancé and Football Kitchen Admin.

ASEC Mimosas holds the world record for unbeaten games, playing 108 games without defeat between 1989 and 1994 across the league and domestic cup competitions.

This feat was achieved under three different managers- Philippe Troussier, Eustache Manglé and Charly Rössli. But the streak finally ended with a 2-1 defeat to SO Armee on 19 June 1994.
