Kiambu Governor pleads out to Gideon Moi to help him fight corruption allegations after Ruto dumps him.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Friday, March 13, said he was a KANU member, and that he has never renounced the Party despite successfully running for governorship in the August 8, 2017 general election under Jubilee.

At the Kabarak KANU delegates meeting in Nakuru county, Waititu stated that he was the official Embakasi chairman and that he had not resigned nor voted out from the being the Chairman.

Waititu said “I was elected the chairperson of KANU Party in Embakasi when the political outfit was very strong in the country. During those days, being the chairman of a political party, one had to be voted for. In Embakasi, we held a very big election, and I was voted the chairperson. As of today, I am still the party’s leader in Embakasi. There has never been any subsequent election to remove me from office.

I was elected the party chairperson when President Kenyatta was also voted the political outfit’s national chairperson [in 2005]. I want people to know that I am attending this event today because I am a KANU member. I have not lost my way as some people would think. When some journeys end, I choose not to lament, but take a U-turn and continue with my trip. Bwana chairman [Gideon Moi], I want to assure you of my support, knowing too well the party is safe in your hands”.

In a closed door meeting with the KANU Chairman, Waititu pleaded with Gideon to help him reach out to the President. He claimed he was deceived to support the Deputy President and that he was ready to find an amicable solution with the DPP to settle his cases.

Waititu predicament started a few months ago, its believed his daliance with the DP William Ruto rubbed the Kiambu mafia in the wrong way. Then he started grappling with corruption allegation when he was the Governor of Kiambu.

The claims put him on the radar of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) whose detectives questioned him, his wife Susan Wangari, daughter Monica Njeri and county officials, among them Finance Chief Officer Faith Njeri Harrison.

According to EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak, Mr Waititu was irregularly awarded tenders worth Sh588 million to companies associated with him and his immediate family.

Mr. Waititu was later impeached by the Kiambu County MCA’s and the Senate.

Before his impeachement, Baba Yao endured a long walk of shame during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa on Sunday, October 2019, after he was asked to vacate a seat at the podium.

The organisers were under strict instructions not to allow leaders battling cases in court or under investigations the VIP podium and therefore Waititu was left with no option but to shamefully leave the venue.

This transpired few days after he was forced to ride in the economy class as the president and other governors rode VIP class in the inaugural Nairobi-Naivasha train journey.
