Vihiga county senatorial hopeful Hon Godfrey Osotsi received a major boost today as elders drawn from all the Bunyore sub clans endorsed his bid.
Speaking at Hon Osotsi’s palatial home in Emusenjeli which is in Wemilabi ward, the elders drawn from all the 17 locations of Bunyoreland under the chairmanship of Mzee Ben Achilla, the elders implored on all the voters across Bunyore land to rally behind Godfrey Osotsi.
“It is with great joy that I Ben Achilla on behalf of Anyole council of elders wish to categorically and without fear of contradiction announce here that we only have one senatorial candidate and his name is Hon Godfrey Osotsi. As a community we arrived at this conclusion after examining his tenacity, steadfastness and pragmatism in articulating issues affecting our county and the nation at large. There may have cropped some other candidates but as community elders we have given our blessings to Hon Osotsi to carry the flag” Mzee Achilla said.
While accepting the honor, Hon Osotsi thanked the elders for their unwavering support and promised to work hard in ensuring he emerges victorious.
“Our elders say that palipo na wazee hapaharibiki neno, Iam so humbled by your support, wise counsel and prayers as we approach August 9th. As your son, I will walk with my shoulders high knowinv very well that my fathers have blessed me even as I traverse Hamisi, Vihiga and Sabatia sub counties. I will forever be indebted to you as my elders” Osotsi said.
The nominated MP who will be flying the ODM flag further requested the elders to remain steadfast and not to be swayed by leaders whose track record is tainted and questionable. Osotsi told them to rally behind Azimio la umoja candidate Hon Raila Odinga and ensure they give him the right people to work with.
The Vihiga senatorial seat is vacant after Hon Khaniri opted out and instead he is gunning for Vihiga governorship.
“With the exit of Hon Khaniri our beloved senator, I am the most qualified person to represent Vihiga in the senate. My 5 years as a legislator has prepaired me well for the daunting task. As your senator I will ensure I lobby for resources and present our county issues on the national front” added Osotsi.
The elders thanked Osotsi hor hosting them and beseeched him to soldier on knowing well that his backyard is well covered.
“Hon Osotsi, go forth and seek votes from the other sub counties knowing well that your backyard of Bunyore is safe and locked. We shall only come back here on 9th August to celebrate your victory” added Mzee Achilla.
The Vihiga senatorial race has attracted 6 other candidates namely Ken Butiko of ANC, Leonard Ongadi of DAP, Cisco Mbindi,Jackson Swadi of UDA,Prof Imbuki of MDG, James Babira of PPK and Hon Osotsi of ODM.
Other than Osotsi Simekha and Butiko who hail from Bunyore, the rest come from Sabatia sub county.
Osotsi is considered a front runner owing to his position as an MP and mastery of the Vihiga political terrain
