Ngatia comes to the rescue of Kangemi fire victims as he donates food, bedding and rent to over 200 families.

Yesterday  Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Richard Ngatia  had time with residents of Kangemi who lost their homes to a fire accident. He shared in their grief, listened to them and shared the little he had  with them.

Kangemi is special to me, it is where I was born and raised. It defines my childhood and memories, and the residents here are my parents, brothers, teachers, friends and my extended family.

said Ngatia.

Ngatia and his team were able to give out food stuff, beddings and other basic amenities that will help ease their suffering, even as  plans to resettle them are underway.

Later, Ngatia  had time with the young people in the area, and who are the majority. They were able to raise issues of concern to them and the general population, and which he will address in  due time.

“We have already held talks with NMS who have offered Security Lights in the area by end of next week. This will help improve security in the area. It will also help reduce cases of arson, muggings and help in emergency responses.” Ngatia said.

On Water shortage

“We addressed the issue of water shortage in the area. This, will be addressed by ensuring we engage Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Limited, Drilling of more boreholes and practicing water  harvesting. This will ensure every household has safe and clean drinking water.” Ngatia promised.

As a necessity, and like in other fire hot spots in Nairobi, Ngatia’s administration  will establish a Fire Station in Kangemi/Mountain View/Westlands Area. This will ensure fire incidences are controlled in good time to reduce loss of property and lives.

“We will continue to engage Nairobi residents on issues that affect them on a day to day life, and at it, ensure we address them effectively and comprehensively.” Ngatia concluded
