Gatina Ward MCA David Ayoi rescues a detained family at Eagles Nursing home in Kangemi .

Eagles Hospital in Kangemi on the spot for detaining patients over bills.

A hospital in Kangemi is on the spot for detaining patients over unpaid bills.

A latest case involves a young man by the name Michael Likare whose wife has sought maternity seevices at the facility.

The unlawful detention of the young man led members of the public to storm the facility demanding justice prompting police to lob teargas canisters to disperse a surging crowd who wanted to torch the faciluty.

The inhumane treatment of patients at the hospital caught the eye if Gatina ward MCA Hon David Ayoi who visited the facility to register his misgivings.

“We are here to demand the immidiate unconditional release of Mr Likare who is in an unlawful detention at this facility. This young man brought his wife here for delivery, she was not attended to ontime and the pregnancy aborted resulting to the infant’s death. The wife was then rushed to Kenyatta hispital but the husband has been detained here which is wrong. You cannot detain a healthy person in a ward”

said Ayoi.

The family had, in three installments, paid a total of Sh52,000 through M-Pesa.

According to Likare, his wife Sharolin khadi had visited the hospital on Wednesday at 8pm for delivery and developed complications. The baby died at the hospital and the mother was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital.

“This hospital decided to detain me here and on top of the balance, I am paying Sh1,100 every day. I have even been given a uniform for sick people,” said Likare.

Hon Ayoi said it was unfortunate that the hospital was detaining a healthy person, especially during this period of coronavirus.

Police took Likare and the hospital representatives, led by an accountant Joshua Mugeni, to Kangemi police station for further questioning.

Mugeni claimed Likare had voluntarily accepted to remain at the hospital as his family raises the balance to clear the balance a position that Likare disagrees with.

Residents who spoke to www.goodmirningkenya.com painted an ugly picture of the hospital.

“My dad died here and his remains were detained, ut took the intervention of Kabete Ocs to have the body released. Goddy’s wife is still detained here for the last six month and we have been paying little by little.”a member said.

Efforts to talk to the hospital owner proved futile as his handlers whisked him away while at the police station in Kangemi.
