As many people turn to online engagements by embracing virtual meetings and social media as a modern way of communication, some remarkable people have chosen to remain in the stone age era by not embracing the technology and instead are despising bloggers.
One such remnant of the stone age era is the Hon Mp for Vihiga county Madam Adagala Kahai Beatrice.
A few days ago while addressing a gathering in her Vihiga constituency, Hon Adagala shocked a majority of the young people who had gathered to listen to their county mum with her uncouth outbursts.
“Nyinyi munashinda tu mukilala kwa tumbo mukifinyafinya simu ati munaandika bulogging. Buloging vitu gani na hakuna chakula kwa tumbo? Munafinyafinya tu simu na vidole zimeoza na muko na njaa! Hii ni maendeleo ama upumbafu? Nyinyi vijana undeni vikundi na sisi tutasaidia nyinyi” thundered the Mp.
These outbursts that did not only demean but also belittled young people have ignited a harsh rebuttal from a section of youth in her county who have threatened to use social media to bring her down.
“Maskini akipata matako hulia mbwata! Huyu amesahau vile tulitumia hiyo blogging kutafutia yeye kura? We even used to buy her tea pale Mbale,! “. A social media user going by the name Siriya wrote.
“How we ended up with Adagala as woman rep still baffles me? This is someone we thought would embrace technology to empower the youths, sasa anataka nifunge hii cyber yangu ndio anipe mkokoteni? ” Mercy wa Shamakhokho wrote.
“Ukivila ukaza”( utarudi tu) Billy Jumba from Gambogi wrote.
Even as the reactions reached fever pitch, activities on the ground have been hightened with those angling to dethrone her meeting voters ahead of 2022.
Hon Jackline Mwenesi is working hard to wrestle the seat from her by giving chicks to farmers.
“We want to empower youths and women into chicken farming, mtu akileta mkokoteni anataka wamama wasukume vipi?” Mwenesi said in reactions to Adagala’s mkokoteni programmes.
Hon Bagada on her part is banking on teachers to help her beat Adagala during Anc party primaries.
“We have seen Uasin gishu woman Mp Hon Gladys Shollei give mortor bikes but here in Vihiga someone is busy giving mikokoteni, let us think about it” she said.
Madam Kevina Oriedo a teacher by profession is putting her troops together for a stab at the seat. She has embarked on a programme to empower women and mentor young girls to curb teen pregnancies and school drop out.
Surprisingly all those angling to dethrone Adagala are using social media to appeal to voters.
Hon Adagala vied for the seat in 2013 on Udf but lost to Hon Kedogo of Odm. The tide changed in 2017 when Hon Kedogo chose to run as Mp Vihiga subcounty which ensured Adagala’s smooth sail on Anc in 2017. Will she withstand the stiff competition in 2022?
