Hon. George Aladwa: The ODM Torchbearer Poised to Take Over Nairobi

In case you missed it—

Yesterday , Hon. George Aladwa, the incoming Nairobi County Governor and one of the most formidable ODM leaders in the capital, joined the faithful at the African Church of the Holy Spirit in Kariakor, Starehe Constituency, where he worshipped and fellowshipped with the congregation in a powerful Sunday service.

Hon. Aladwa, visibly at ease among the believers, expressed his deep gratitude for the warm welcome he received. In his remarks, he encouraged the faithful to walk steadfastly in faith, unity, and service to humanity, reminding them that great societies are built on spiritual foundations and people-centered leadership.

Quoting Proverbs 29:2 (NIV), he said:

“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.”

He emphasized that true progress can only come when citizens choose God-fearing, visionary, and people-driven leaders—those who prioritize the welfare of the people over personal gain.

The Aladwa Wave: A New Dawn for Nairobi

Hon. George Aladwa’s presence in Starehe is part of his whirlwind tour across all Nairobi constituencies, where he has been meeting grassroots leaders, clergy, business people, and community groups. His message has been consistent—“It’s time to reclaim Nairobi for the people.”

Over the weekend, Aladwa’s growing momentum received a major political boost in Lang’ata Constituency when Hon. Felix Jalang’o and Hon. Beatrice Elachi of Dagoretti North threw their full support behind him, pledging to stand firmly with him as he seeks to fly the ODM flag for the Nairobi Governorship in 2027.

A Seasoned Leader with Deep Roots

A former Mayor of Nairobi and current Makadara MP, George Aladwa has carved a niche for himself as an avid legislator, shrewd negotiator, and unmatched political mobiliser. His political journey mirrors the story of resilience, loyalty, and commitment to service.

Within ODM, Aladwa is widely respected for his consistency and firm belief in the ideals of the Orange movement. He has been one of Raila Odinga’s most trusted foot soldiers, always rallying the base and keeping the ODM flame alive even in the most trying political seasons.

Behind the scenes, Aladwa has also earned respect as a bridge-builder, maintaining cordial relationships across the political divide. His friendly rapport with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, his respect for President William Ruto, and his long-standing friendship with Raila Odinga position him as a consensus candidate capable of uniting the city’s diverse political forces.

800,000 Votes and Counting: The Luhya Factor

Aladwa enters the Nairobi gubernatorial race with a solid political base—an estimated 800,000-strong Luhya voting bloc spread across Makadara, Lang’ata, Embakasi, Westlands, and Dagoretti constituencies. His ability to mobilize this bloc, coupled with ODM’s enduring presence in Nairobi, makes him a formidable force ahead of 2027.

Political analysts believe that Aladwa’s entry will reshape the dynamics of Nairobi’s gubernatorial contest, setting the stage for a thrilling race that could pit him against Babu Owino, incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja, and Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.

But as things stand, Aladwa’s grassroots touch, negotiation skill, and deep political experience could easily make him the man to beat.

A People’s Governor in the Making

As Aladwa continues to traverse Nairobi’s 17 constituencies, his message resonates with ordinary residents—the traders, boda boda riders, clergy, and youth groups who see in him a leader who understands their struggles and has the heart to serve.

For many Nairobians, George Aladwa represents the return of authentic leadership—grounded, compassionate, and people-focused. His journey from the streets of Makadara to City Hall and Parliament speaks of a man who has walked the path of the people and is ready to lead them toward a new dawn of prosperity, fairness, and inclusion.

“Nairobi is ready for servant leadership,” Aladwa told the Kariakor congregation.
“Leadership that listens, unites, and delivers for the people. Together, we will make Nairobi work for everyone.”

With the ODM party re-energizing its base and Raila Odinga preparing for a new political chapter, Hon. George Aladwa stands tall as the man to carry the Orange flag high—a symbol of unity, faith, and renewed hope for Nairobi.
