President William Ruto has in line with the thinking  of majority Kenyans sent his entire cabinet home. In a move aimed at appeasing the restless Kenyans and the GenZs , one man stands out as the Cornerstone  on which president Ruto wants to rely on  as he navigates his first term in office.

The last cabinet meeting.

Hon Musalia Mudavadi has cut a niche for himself as the least toxic and non polarizing figure in Rutos government. Many Kenyans agree that Mudavadi or as many nowadays refer to him as His Earthquakeness owing to his ground shaking move at Bomas of Kenya which easened Ruto’s march to Statehouse is the ideal man capable of helping Ruto reshape our nation.

But what make the humble son of Mululu tick?

Both  friends and foe agree that Mudavadi is a stickler of the law, honest and selfless. These traits coupled with his long career in politics as an MP, minister, Vice president and deputy prime minister have given him the wherewithal to withstand the shocks while maintaining his cool during difficult times.

Take for instance the recent demonstrations by the youth, whereas all government officers were busy labelling and belittling the young Kenyans who took to the streets, Mudavadi soberly engaged with humility while calling upon the president to listen to the young Kenyans. This soberness has enabled the president to climb down and now we are having a conversation around issues the youths consider paramount for the nation’s growth.

As prime cabinet secretary in  Ruto’s government, Mudavadi’s reputation, demeanour and pedigree makes fellow government officers to work well with him.

Mudavadi does not burly junior staff but he works closely with them for the good of the nation. Recently when staff in his offices were allegedly involved in extortion, he never circumvented justice by shielding them, instead he opened his gates to allow justice to take its course as a deterrent to would be future victims of the same.

Mudavadi’s pedigree and trustworthiness makes him the Cornerstone of Ruto’s administration.

As the president announced the dismissal of his entire cabinet many Kenyans were surprised to see Mudavadi untouched.

By not touching him, Ruto has clearly demonstrated to Kenyans who his trusted lieutenants are. Mudavadi is not a media happy guy but works in silence a trait that has seen him avoid making silly mistakes which would have otherwise soiled his image as a civil servant.

Kenyans now look upto Mudavadi’s wisdom in helping president Ruto steer the country to a better and prosperous future.

With Mudavadi incharge of Foreign affairs ministry, Raila’s  quest for the AUC chairmanship is in good standing considering that both men worked well under Kibaki where Mudavadi deputised Raila. Ever since the two have maintained a good rapport their political differences during the 2022 election not withstanding.

Many mistake his calmness for lack of ambitions. They are dead wrong.  It is every politician’s dream to serve the nation at the highest office. Mudavadi’s march to Statehouse remains oncourse. In 2013 his march to Statehouse on UDF encountered some turbulence which led him to shelve his ambition and back Raila i  2017 under NASA. Thanks to him NASA was formed. This was another selfless act which has been his trademark. In 2022 rather than congest the presidential ballot, Mudavadi unconditionally backed Ruto for the top seat which earned him a seat on the table of men as a co principal in the current administration.  Yes, Mudavadi is ambitious but he is also alive to the fact that there can only be one President in Kenya at a time.

Is his march to Statehouse still on? Time will tell but for now Mudavadi is happy serving the nation and helping the Kenya Kwanza government deliver to the expectations of Kenyans.
