IT is good that the whole Country has now rightly turned our attention to how Public Money which is mainly our taxes is being UTILIZED.
It is a remarkable place to be as we now move away from TRIBAL BIGOTRY as a basis for POLITICAL MOBILISATION to issues of frugality when using Public Resources, ethical conduct in public offices and monetization of politics.
I think we must credit the Gen Zs for helping us redirect our focus. However, LET US NOT chase the squirrel and let the antelope GO SCOT-FREE.
Today, we wake up to the Elected leaders having nearly succeeded in blinding us to chase the SQUIRREL. They have conveniently CHOSEN TO “…REJECT ANY PAYRISE DUE TO STATE OFFICERS ..”
Fellow Kenyans, the documented PAYROLL IS NOT the place where MOST PUBLIC MONEY IS LOST. As one Silas Gisiora Nyanchwani has opined on his wall, HII NI SIDESHOW.
The real problem is Conflict of interest. Why do you think your MPs on emaciated payslips they display online are still living large? It is CDF, it is NGAAF, it is State Tenders that many of them HAVE CONFISCATED FROM THE REAL HUSTLERS AND LOCKED IN FOR THEMSELVES VIA PROXIES.
The original Conflict of interest Bill 2023 that was presented to Parliament IS BEING MUTILATED AS WE PROTEST ABOUT the miniscule Salaries.
The Bill went to the National Assembly in May 2023. It stayed there for too long as they figured out how to mutilate it. Then it went to the Senate where the Senators have made proposals to SUBSTANTIALLY WEAKEN AND BASICALLY TEAR IT APART. THE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE BILL by the Senate are so bad that the EACC has even sent a protest note to the National Assembly JLAC to reject them.
So, Gen Zs TRACK this Bill, it will be back in the National Assembly when it reconvenes on July 23rd 2024.
IF THE LAW STILL ALLOWS STATE AND PUBLIC OFFICERS TO TRADE WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES EVEN THOSE THAT EMPLOY THEM AND PAY THEIR SALARIES….You have won nothing! The lives lost will have been in vain!
Public Servants on public Salaries MUST STOP trading with Government. If they want to trade with Government, THEY MUST LEAVE PUBLIC OFFICE.
Let us not punish humble public Servants like teachers, nurses, police etc WITH A PAY HIKE FREEZE when the real people taking our money are left to walk away with it!
