No Direct Jubilee Ticket for Ngatia to Run as Nairobi Governor, Party Dismisses Media Reports

The ruling Jubilee Party has not granted direct tickets to anyone or allowed of its branches to endorse any line-up of candidates ahead of the party’s nominations.

The Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, dismissed press reports circulating in the media that the party had endorsed the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia to run as the party’s candidate for Nairobi Governor in the Azimio La Umoja alliance.

“Jubilee is a democratic party and cannot stoop to low to massage the egos and interests of any individual irrespective of his or her status in the society through boardroom decisions. All candidates will undergo a nomination process and the winner will earn the party’s ticket democratically,” said the official.

Kioni said:”There will be nominations unless a candidate is unnoposed by being the only one to have offered himself or herself for the contest. At the moment there are aspirants who have expressed interest we are not aware if any has stepped down, As a party we will give all candidates a chance in a free and fair elections.”

He said that all the candidates interested to clinch the party’s ticket will have to undergo a nomination process which is in accordance with Jubilee constitution in regard to picking a candidate to carry its flag in an election.

“The press reports are fake and a propaganda being propagated by a candidate to hoodwink Nairobians and Kenyans and should not be believed,” he said.

The party said it had launched investigations into the alleged endorsement and will take action against those involved even if it means barring them from contesting the Jubilee Party nominations for committing an elections offence.

According to the press reports, it had alleged that Ngatia had been endorsed for Nairobi county gubernatorial race under the Azimio La Umoja ticket at the Jubilee headquarters on Friday, March 11th, 2022.
