Former Sonko Spokesman Mulwa to fly Azimio flag in Nairobi Governor race

The Azimio La Umoja Coalition candidate for Nairobi County can now be revealed. Sources privy to the lengthy negotiations witnessed last Saturday ahead of the unveiling of Azimio La Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, a power sharing formula was reached paving the way for the inclusion of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s Spokesman Ben Mulwa been fronted to contest for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat at the August 2022 general elections.

The negotiations team that brought OKA alliance on board intimate that the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga insisted on having former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth as his running mate in the Presidential ticket while Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka insisted on Wiper getting the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. Only Mulwa has expressed interest in the Nairobi governor’s seat in the wiper party.

Both Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta agreed to Kalonzo’s demands to have Mulwa run for the gubernatorial seat as the Azimio candidate.

Sources further reveal that Ben Mulwa will be deputized by business woman Agnes Kagure while former Jubilee party Secretary General Rafael Tuju will be fronted as the Nairobi Senator as proposed by President Uhuru. The proposal fronted by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli to have either Anitah Nanjala or Beatrice Kwamboka to run for the Women Representative position was also adopted.

Meanwhile, gubernatorial aspirants Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Richard Ngatia and incumbent Nairobi women representative Esther Passaris were implored upon to continue with their campaigns in order to mobilize votes for the trio as they await the appointments as Cabinet Secretary for Education, Industrialization and Gender and Special Program in the Azimio la Umoja government respectively.
