Hold elections in Nov 2022 not August, senator tells IEBC.

Former nominated senator Paul Njoroge wants IEBC to change election date to August 2023 as August 9, 2022 will not be 5 years since President Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn in.

Njoroge has written to IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati and the AG giving 30 days notice to sue.

Now digest these facts slowly.

Article 142 of the Constitution reads that the term of the President begins on the date he was sworn in.

The President was sworn in on 28th November 2017 meaning the term of five years ends on 27th November 2022.

Article 136 of the same Constitution reads that the presidential elections can only be held on the Second Tuesday of August.

That means, after Uhuru’s term ends on 27th November, 2022, the other second Tuesday in August can only be in 2023.

Thinking or trying to remove a President in office before his term ends amounts to a coup and you can be charged with treason.

Chebukati has 30 days to respond!
