Former AFC leopards sc Deputy Secretary-General Hon Stazo Omung’ala has mourned the demise of Mr. Alex Ole Magelo a former long-serving Afc leopards chairman and a city politician who also served as the first speaker Nairobi county.
“Magelo’s death is not only a blow to his family and the Maa community but to the entire nation and the sporting fraternity,’’ Hon Stazo said.
The ODM party youth leader and current MCA for Upper Savanna went on to describe Magelo as a true leopard and a soccer lover who broke barriers and became AFC leopards chairman.
‘’The late Magelo broke barriers by ascending to the chairmanship of Afc leopards a club that draws its fan base from the populous Luhya nation. Although himself a Maasai, Magelo’s love for the club was unequaled and he even chose to help revamp the club when it was not fashionable to do so. I personally served the club under his leadership and I can attest to his love for the game and the club we all adore ie AFC leopards’’ Stazo added.
Champion of players welfare.
The only football administrator who knew the meaning of players’ welfare, Aman who could die for the team and a great team player. The best moment with Magelo as chair was when I advised him we boycott a certain match against Gor which wasn’t a league match but a milking point of the then kpl crew who were always against us and chairman heeded. We boycotted that match at kasarani. Magelo always had a listening ear and was ready to accommodate divergent views in his leadership.

Other leaders also eulogized Ole Magelo terming him as a nationalist.

Kajiado Governor Joseph Lenku described the late Magelo as a brave and dependable man, a philanthropist, a football administrator, a politician and dedicated public servant.

Magelo served as the Nairobi County Speaker from 2013 -2017. Last year he withdrew from the race to succeed ousted former Speaker Beatrice Elachi and supported the current Speaker Benson Mutura.
Magelo was born in Olorropil area, Narok North Sub County but settled in Kajiado County. He leaves behind a widow Lucy Muthoni Magelo and several children
