Will ANC yield to members demand for grassroots elections before 2022?

ANC PARTY MEMBERS DEMAND GRASSROOTS ELECTIONS.

Juma Brian and Billion Ebole address members of the fourth estate.

Members of the Amani National Congress have called  on the party to immediately call for party’s grass root election to position the party well as we approach the 2022 elections.

Speaking to members of the fourth estate, the members said that it is about time the party moved from its selective approach in determining party leadership and instead embrace a democratic way of choosing leaders through a popular vote.

”We now call upon the party to move with speed and call for grassroot elections so that party members can choose people who can steer this party to the next level as we approach the 2022 general election. For a long time, we have been denied seats which were later awarded to preferred people within the party ranks. This can only be done through an election. Change can only come through the ballot and by holding elections, we shall ensure the party gains immensely from far and wide” said Brian Juma.

Forget about the presidential bid if elections are not held from the grassroots…

Ebole.

While adding his voice on the matter, Mr. Billion Ebole a staunch ANC supporter from Eldoret said that it will be a tall order for the party to proceed into general elections without having a clear grassroots structure.

”Those who have been leading this party have been doing so on account of being selected as opposed to being elected. People have been meeting in hotels and sharing party positions. I want to categorically tell the party leader H.E. Musalia Mudavadi that unless we make amend, even his presidential bid in 2022 shall not yield the desired results.added Billion.

Anc party has been embroidered into several internal wrangles as far as party positions are concerned. Immidiately after the 2017 general elections, the party replaced its founding Sg and a nominated member of the national assembly Hon Godfrey Osotsi with Mr Barack Muluka. This did not go down well with a asection of party faithfuls and it became a subject of a long court battle that saw Hon Osotsi stripped of his party membership. This however opened another grueling court battle that ended last month where the Mp was reinstated as a party member upon successfully challenging his striking out in a court of law.

Mid last year, Hon Osotsi caused a stampede in the party when he revealed that the party officials had ceased being in office for failing to conduct party elections as per the constitution of the party.

”What the party members from north rift are stating is nothing new. When Hon Osotsi raised the issue in June last year we all came out guns blazing and called him a traitor. I think it is about time the party stuck to its constitution and held party elections to inspire confidence among our membership. This party has never held elections since its inception which contravenes the laid down set of laws that govern political parties” a member of the party who did not wish to be named so as not to be seen as antagonizing the party said.

on 9th June, Hon Osotsi while speaking at the national assembly called on the party to hold elections or all its leaders shall be rendered absolute. This ilicited a miriad of reaction from a section of party members but the fire died down when ANC party called for a Nec meeting which extended the term of those in office for a further 5 year term sighting challenges the country was facing as the covid 19 pandemic ravaged the nation.
