“Covid 19 is real and its effects are dire now,more than they were three months ago. I want to urge all to step up the fight and we shall all win” Hon James Toya speaking on Mulembe fm.
Shining Hope for the Community (Shofco) chairman for Dagoretti sub county and Gatina politician Hon James Toya has urged all Kenyans to remain on a high alert as we battle covid 19.
Mr Toya was speaking on Mulembe Fm where he outlined what his organization shofco was doing to help combat covid 19 and helping the locals to mitigate on the effects of Covid 19.
# Distribution of soap and sanitizers.
“Under my leadership as Shofco chairman for Dagoretti sub county which covers both Dagoretti North and Dagoretti South constituencies, we have distributed soaps and hand sanitizers to over 200 000 households. To ensure this venture is successfully done, we have enlisted the services of youth and women within different localities to help distribute these things under strict observance of the laid down covid 19 protocals by the health minjstry. We have also ensured that water points are operational and manned daily. Those who mann the water points who are all over Dagoretti and at the end of the day, we give them some cash for their sacrifice” Toya said.
# Effects of Covid 19 in Dagoretti North.
The effects of covid 19 have affected alot of our people especially in slum areas, Toya adds.
” As grassroot leaders within Davoretti, we have come face to face to effects of covid 19 on our people.This has forced me to start some food distribution excercise in my capacity as a leader. When a woman comes to your house early in the morning with a hungry child you cannot send them a way empty handed. You will always try your best and help. Many people have lost jobs especially those in hospitality industries.” Said Toya.
# Psychological effects of covid 19.
“Lack of money and jobs have led many people to suffer pyschologically. Nowadays we are seeing many couples fight and even divorce. The pressure is too much. Even those couples who were most peaceful are now querrelsome due to pressure brought about by covid 19.
Security in our area has also been compromised. Many young men have turned into robbers and the long closure of schools have increased the population in our slum areas where idle young men are now turning to drugs and sex” Toya told Mulembe fm.
# Water distribution in Dagoretti.
“We are facing an acute water shortage in Dagoretti area. Under Shofco and my own personal initiative, we have managed to do water distribution to all the affected villages daily. Without water, it will be of no use telling our people to wash hands to help combat covid 19” added Toya.
Besides working with Shofco to help mitigate the covid 19 pandemic, James Toya is not shy from stating his political ambition in future.
“For now we are busy serving our people especially during this hard times of covid 19. But it should not escape my people of Gatina ward that Iam a local politician with eyes fixed on Gatina ward in 2022. I belong to Anc Party led by My able party leader Hon Mudavadi and come 2022, I will be offering myself for election as Mca Gatina Ward. I humbly ask all the people to pray with me as we look ahead to changing the face of Gatina ward. I also thank Mulembe Fm for the invite and support” Toya concluded
