Nairobi Luhya leaders push for Hon Beatrice Elachi for deputy governor’s position.

Just one day after the swearing-in of Nairobi’s acting governor Hon Benson Muturi,  the race to have a substantive governor has started in earnest.

A series of late-night meetings have kicked off all in search of the next occupant of the city’s hottest seat. Several names are being floated about on who should be given the mantle to help finish the term that was prematurely cut short after Sonko’s impeachment.

With Gatundu North Mp declaring his interest for the top county seat, (whether he did it for comic relief or he truly means it we don’t know) other would-be aspirants have as well made their intentions clearly known.

Former Dagoretti South MP Hon Dennis Waweru and former Gatanga Mp Hon Peter Kenneth have so far emerged as front runners owing to their unwavering support for the handshake and BBI.

Although former Starehe Mp Hon Bishop Wanjiru who is leaning towards the tanga tanga wing of jubilee has thrown his hat in the ring, no other woman has come out to lay a claim on the city’s top seat.

Nairobi Luhya leaders want Hon Elachi to run as a deputy governor to the handshake candidate…

Over the weekend, there has been an intensified lobbying geared towards positioning the immediate former speaker Hon Elachi as the potential running mate during the upcoming by-election.

Hon Elachi resigned as the county assembly speaker a few months ago in what observers saw as a calculated move to position her strategically for a higher calling in the city politics.

Hon Elachi who served as a nominated Mp in the last senate has cut a niche in the politics of this nation which saw her run for Dagoretti North Mp losing narrowly to ODM’s Simba  Arati. Being one politician who never says die, Elachi vied as Nairobi county Assembly speaker and was overwhelmingly elected making her the first woman speaker of the Nairobi county assembly until her resignation sighting frustration from some quarters in what she called ‘ chronicles of city hall’.

“We the Mulembe nation in Nairobi have unanimously agreed to support our daughter Hon Elachi for the seat of Deputy governor in Nairobi. Her wealth of experience in matters of city politics and devolution by virtue of her service as a nominated senator and Nairobi county speaker gives her the wherewithal to discharge the duties in that office well. Besides for a long time we have been sidelined on matters of city politics with and Hon Elachi gives the city an opportunity to reverse that trend besides giving the city leadership the face of the nation. With Gen Badi of NMS running some functions, we believe Elachi will come in handy to help deliver services to the city dwellers’’ Mzee Nathan Mengesa speaking from Kasarani said.

In her Dagoretti North backyard, several churches used part of their Sunday service to urge their flocks to get ready for the first woman deputy governor in Nairobi.

Mzee Kadenge of Matendo ministries while presiding over ministries Sunday worship called on both Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga not to overlook Hon Elachi.

‘’ We want to request President Uhuru and his handshake partner Rt Hon Raila Odinga to seriously consider tagging along Hon Elachi as we look forward to having a handshake candidate in Nairobi’s gubernatorial race. Beatrice has been steadfast in her service to this nation and has unequivocally supported the handshake and BBI’ ‘ he said.

Youths and women leaders all drawn from the Mulembe nation have all thrown their weight behind Elachi for the DG’s position.

‘’We know that BBI speaks of gender balance when it comes to positions in this county. The forthcoming Nairobi county by-election offers an opportunity to talk the talk by having Hon Elachi deputize the handshake candidate in the forthcoming election. We will not have any issue with the candidate offered under the handshake banner all we are requesting is for our sister Hon Elachi to be given space to play in that league on behalf of the women and the larger Luhya nation here in the city’’ Mama  Electina aka Mama Yao from Kibra said.

Under the Embrace women banner, Hon Elachi has been very instrumental in fighting for the rights of the women folks which has endeared her to many in the city.

Whoever is going to tag her along as a running mate in the forthcoming election will benefit from her vast wealth of experience in mobilizing  reminiscent in how he mobilized Nairobi for Sonko and Jubilee during the last General elections.

Upon leaving office as a speaker, Hon Elachi has been actively engaging in matters of national discourse, helping several children home as has been her norm, and attending to her business here in the city.
