Edwin Sifuna is urguably Baba’s favourite son. The sharp shooting ODM SG is known for his zeal in defence of his party and Baba.
Infact many who have crossed his parts and those of Baba and ODM are still nursing their wounds. Sifuna takes no prisoners.
An old boy from Musingu boys, Sifuna has cut a niche for himself in Kenya’s politics. Sifuna doesnt shy away from speaking his mind. Infact Sifuna is brutally honest whenever he opines be it on matters ODM or on anything that is of national interest.
Sifuna to run for Nairobi county senatorship in 2022.
Wakili Sifuna as he is fondly known within the legal circles plunged into politics for the first time in 2017 when he sought the ODM ticket for Kanduyi constituency in Bungoma county. The city lawyer narrowly lost to John Makali.
This temporal setback as he called it did not deter him from marching forth.Sifuna shifted base to Nairobi and both the city dwellers and the ODM party petitioned him to consider flying the party flag which he obliged.
Although Sifuna joined the race late, he traversed the vast city county and gave Sakaja the eventual winner a run for his money. Sifuna did not win but he had announced his arrival in the city politics with a thud. Ever since, Sifuna has been playing his role as the peoples senator giving his views on how the city is governed besides discharging his role as ODM party SG.
Nairobians endorse Sifuna for Nairobi senator in 2022.
Sifuna’s second stab has received a major boost from Nairobians as several groups have come forth to endorse his bid.
In Dagoretti North, youths have endorsed Sifuna as their choice to replace Sakaja who is gunning for governorship.
“As youths of Dagoretti North, we want to categorically pledge our support to ODM’s party SG Hon Edwin Sifuna for senator Nairobi. It is about time he assumed the seat and serve us without fear. We trust him because besides his legal background, he is honest and bold. These and many other attributes sets Sifuna apart as the best bet for senate seat” Juma said.
Sifuna’s candidature has also excited several groups in the city.
Speaking to several ODM MCA’s in the Nairobi county assembly, most of them exuded confidence that Sifuna was the perfect candidate for ODM in Nairobi.
“This time round, Baba is going to become the 5th president, it is therefore important for sharp minds like Sifuna to be in the senate in defence of devolution. Baba has been a champion of devolution and we believe Sifuna will be an added advantage to Raila’s presidency. We are already combing the ground popularizing Sifuna as our choice for senator Nairobi county.” Ayoi David Gatina Ward MCA said.
When contacted for comment on his second bid for Nairobi senatorship, Sifuna remained easy but promised to do all that it takes to deliver the seat to ODM.
The ODM Sg has been traversing the county encouraging young people to register as voters and to also enlist as ODM members.
“We are currently encouraging our young people to turn up and register as voters and also to enlist as party members. ODM is the largest party in Kenya and we want as many people as possible to join this great movement” Sifuna said as he toured Kibra constituency.
So far besides Sifuna, no other name has come forth to show interest in the ODM ticket.
Will Sifuna be second time lucky? Time will tell.
