Celebrating girl child by mentoring and sharing with them sanitary towels in Dagoretti North: Hon Emma Shinjiri.

Celebrating the ” Girl child as true heroines”

Today was a Mashujaa day like no other as Dagoretti North politician Hon Emmaculate Shinjiri and her team chose to celebrate with young girls in Kabiro area of Dagoretti North.

Over 100 young girls gathered and as has been the norm, Hon Emmaculate guided them on several life issues especially the challenges facing the young girls in the informal settlements.

Speaking to www.goodmorningkenya.com, Hon Shinjiri decried the sorry state that the girl child is in and urged many people to join her in offering a helping hand.
“I took up the initiative of mentoring and walking with these young ones after I came face to face with their plight in 2017 when I first vied for an MCA seat here in Kabiro. While on a door to door campaign then, I could meet several school going girls locked in simply because they could not afford sanitary towels during those heavy days. Some could easily fall prey to young men who would take advantage and seek to exchange as little as 50/ for sex which in many cases exposed the young ones to early pregnancies hence high school drop out rate
As a young lady I could not watch my sisters waste a way and ever since I have been reaching out on them by way of advice and sharing with them sanitary towels ” Emma said.

Today was even a double blessing for the young ones as Hon Emma was joined with a team of young women who also encouraged the young girls and shared life skills with them.

The team comprised of Miss Wambui, Nancy, Naumi and Hon Anne an aspiring Woman rep in Tharaka Nithi county. The all girls team also received a boost from Mr Michael Okwiri the Airtel co operate affairs boss in Africa.

It was a party to behold as the young girls and the team that was coaching them joined in a ‘Jerusalema dance challenge’.
