Boost for Situma as Kadima, Esikuri Lead Wave of Support Ahead of AFC Leopards SG Elections

By , Sports Correspondent

A major boost has been handed to Robert Situma Omusawa’s bid for the Secretary General (SG) position at AFC Leopards, after two of his strongest competitors — Prof. Asava Kadima and Dennis Esikuri — stepped down and endorsed his candidacy.

Situma, who was recently cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest, is now widely viewed as the frontrunner for the coveted position, following the high-profile endorsements.

Speaking after the endorsements, Situma, visibly humbled and energized, expressed his gratitude.

“The decision by my brothers — whom I have immense respect and admiration for — is both humbling and encouraging. Prof. Asava Kadima, my senior in the profession; Dennis Esikuri, my younger brother; and Jesse Tetei are smart and outstanding fellows here at AFC,” he said.

“Their gesture underscores the cherished values of unity, togetherness, and success. No doubt our founding fathers had the motto Obulala na maani — unity is strength. I will strive to harmonise our manifestos, now enriched by their ideas. Together, we can usher in a new era of excellence at the Den.”

Prof. Kadima confirmed that following discussions with Situma, his team would now integrate their manifesto into Situma’s agenda to ensure a seamless vision for reform.

“This is a journey I am fully committed to walk with him — side by side. Omusawa believed in a New Dawn. We believed in a New Era of Excellence. Together, we now embrace A New Dawn of Excellence,” he stated, further adding that constitutional reform would be a top priority within the first 90 days of Situma’s tenure.

Dennis Esikuri echoed similar sentiments in a separate statement, saying:

“After careful consideration, I’ve officially withdrawn from the Secretary General race. I’m proud to throw my full support behind Omusawa Situma — a passionate leader with the vision and drive to elevate AFC Leopards.”

Situma’s rising momentum now leaves only two other candidates — Renee Sitawa and Isaac Mulindi — in the race. However, with key aspirants rallying behind him and the support base widening, Situma appears poised for a likely win in the June 29 elections.

As the campaign enters its final stretch, all signs point to a unifying force gathering behind Situma — a signal of renewed hope and leadership for the AFC Leopards faithful.
