One Ward One Vote to end Mike Sonko’s hold at City hall as Mca’s plan to Retreat in Kisumu

Nairobi county Mca’s are scheduled to travel to Kisumu for a weekend retreat. Top on the agenda will be Sonko’s continued stay as Nairobi county governor even after some of his functions were tranferred to the central government.

Makongeni ward Mca Hon Imwatok was in the process of impeaching governor Sonko a task that proved rather tough. According to sources, Sonko had won a majority of Mca’s on his side. With 85 elected Mcas and 41 nominated, Sonko was having the luxury of buying a few Mca’s on his side to jeopardize the impeachment process.

On Thursday last week, the Nairobi county assembly passed a one ward one vote principle which now reduces the nominated Mca’s to flower girls and cheerleaders with no voting rights.

Speaking to Good morning Kenya on condition we dont reveal his identity, an elected Mca had these to say “All our efforts to streamline operations in Nairobi were being frustrated by nominated members. It is these members who have been protecting and entrenching impunity by reducing themselves into Sonko Defence Forces. Afew of our fellow elected mca’s too have fallen prey to Sonko’s siasa ya kitu kidogo. Yes we shall be retreating and the retreat will change many things in Nairobi county” He said.

We further sought to hear from the nominated member and one had these to say, “it is true a majority of nominated mca’s were on Sonko’s side for obvious reasons but it must be recorded that some of us remained true to our oversight roles.

Yes we are broke with several loans on us but we have kept our eyes on the ball” the Odm nominated member said.
