Somebody once said the betrayal is the medium of exchange in politics. This ancient saying has taken root in Kenya, infact there is no better way to repay both friends and foes in politics than to betray them. Whereas many people will quickly point a finger at Raila,Kibaki, Moi and Kalonzo for this, actually all political and I mean all political big wigs have in one way or the other betrayed their people. Raila the master of handshakes

Raila went into a handshake with Moi in 1997, he wound up his NDP to join KANU where Moi appointed him as KANU secretary general a very powerful position in KANU then like it is for UDA today.
Raila was also made a minister in the powerful Energy ministry with a silent M.O.U that he would also succeed Moi in 2002 before Moi shortchanged him and instead picked Uhuru Kenyatta.
Some people or Raila’s foot soldiers felt shortchanged because Raila enjoyed the handshake proceeds alone.
In 2003 Raila also had another MOU with kibaki after he Raila helped Kibaki ascend to the presidency after vigorously campaigning for him while Kibaki was in hospital after a serious accident in the middle of the campaigns.
Kibaki was to appoint him prime minister. It did not come to pass. However in 2008 after the P.E.V Kibaki and Raila formed a grand coalition government where Raila was a prime minister with executive powers Raila appointed Musalia Mudavadi as his deputy prime minister something that did not go down well with Ruto who claimed he should have been the one appointed DPM claiming Musalia did not bring in much desired votes like him hence the fall out with Raila up to now.
In 2018 Raila again went into a handshake with Uhuru Kenyatta just to get at Ruto. This did also not go down well with the likes of Musalia Mudavadi ,Stephen kalonzo and many more because Raila again went alone denying them the proceeds of the hand shake.
Handshakes have been an issue dividing and breaking loyalties. Musalia Mudavadi has not been an exception.
Mudavadi betrays Kalonzo and Moi in a secret handshake with Ruto~Earthquake episode.
In 2022 January 23rd, Mudavadi went into a secretive earthquake handshake with Ruto without letting his lieutenants aware until the ANC NDC day.
It was and still is rumoured that a phenomenal amount of money changed hands but some ANC elected leaders were shortchanged in the deal which lead them to miss out on the proceeds of the earthquake handshake. Hence the rebellion you witnessed by some MPS who defected to ODM and DAP parties rendering ANC weak and vulnerable.
Musalia made Ruto the king. Ruto is now out to kill the king maker. Musalia Mudavadi must die politically. But what is Mudavadi’s dead wish? Is he gonna leave behind a political will? Who is gonna succeed him? Is the Mulembe nation ready to fill the impeding vacuum? This and many other questions are troubling the Mulembe nation but hopefully a leader will sooner than later emerge.
