Include private schools in your school feeding programme” Hon Swaka to Sakaja

Thursday 16th February 2023

Gatina Ward MCA Mwalimu Kennedy Swqkq has urged Governor Sakaja to include private schools in his feeding programme which is expected to begin late this year.

While lauding the governor for this very noble initiative, Hon Swaka was however quick to point out that several wards have inadequate education facilities to cater for the majority urban poor.

“Governor Sakaja’s school feeding programme is highly recommendable for it is aimed at increasing the shool attendance for the urban poor majority. Unfortunately, there is no public poverty or private poverty. We should find a way out and incorporate private entities that are doing a wonderful job in complimenting the government in so far as provision of education is concerned” Swaka said.

While addressing the county assembly in his inaugural speech,  Sakaja promised to roll out the school feeding programme terming it a success.

We have been piloting the project in a few schools in Nairobi and have seen attendance in school go up by 100 per cent while performance has also improved by over 60 per cent,” Sakaja said

“The national government will undertake to finance and roll out the feeding programme countrywide and will depend on Nairobi for learning lessons,” the governor added.
