A contract of 12M, how did the government pay 285M, can Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi explain?

Mukhisa Kituyi the UNCTAD president to appear before a parliamentary committee that’s investigating the contract he awarded while he was the minister for trade and industry back in 2004.

The documents at PAC indicates the contract was irregularly awarded to Tele- news Africa and Atlantic Region and at that time it was only to cost the government 12 million but Kenyan government ended up paying 285,000,000 and even more is being demanded.

The contract ended on 9 June 2004 but the company continued advertising and escalating the cost to 285M with 70M remaining as outstanding debt from the government. Tele news insists it must be paid the whole amount totaling to 355 million.

The PAC chairman Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, has intimated to GoodmorningKenya that he wants UNCTAD Secretary General to appear before it and explain his role in this saga that made the government to lose millions of shillings.

He posed, imagine the initial cost was only 12,000,000 M but how the government went a head and paid 285 M and 70M is being demanded is still a mystery, if you look at this matter, you don’t need forensic science to notice there is some fraud here.

Will the Secretary general of UNCTAD appear before the Public Accounts Committee? Will they manage to question him or this is just the end of the matter?
