Azimio settles for Ken Ng’ondi for Nairobi county assembly speaker.

The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance principals have endorsed former deputy Speaker Ken Ng’ondi for the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker’s post.

The principals who include former Vice President and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kenya’s oldest party Kanu’s boss Gideon Moi through their weight behind Ng’ondi marshaling their Azimio troops to rally behind the former deputy speaker to ascend the Speaker’s job.

Kalonzo and Moi are the latest leaders to endorse Ng’ondi joining other Azimio leaders who include the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running-mate Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua.

Azimio leaders in Nairobi behind Ng’ondi’s candidature are the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nairobi branch chairman who was re-elected as the Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) George Aladwa, former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker who was elected as the Dagoreti North MP on an ODM ticket, Hon Beatrice Elachi, Babu Owino (Embakasi East MP, ODM), Nairobi Jubilee Party MP’s Amos Wagoand Mark Muriithi Mwenje, Langata MP Felix Odiwuor (ODM), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare MP, ODM), Westlands Mp Tim Wetangula and veteran Nairobi influential politician Reuben Ndolo a former Makadara MP among others.

Kalonzo and Moi called on the Azimio Members of County Assembly (MCAs) not to waver in their support for the alliance’s candidate Ken Ng’ondi and remain steadfast and united in backing him for the Speaker’s job adding that Ng’ondi was the best choice for the job basing on his experience.

They warned the MCAs against falling prey of being bribed by their rivals the Kenya Kwanza alliance schemes of buying out lawmakers from the Azimio side.

“Kenya Kwanza has been notorious by using money to induce MPs to cross from Azimio to their side. Let’s remain loyal to our party leader Raila Odinga and use the advantage of our numbers to fight for te control the county assembly so that we can pass and implement laws and policies that will make the Azimio manifesto a reality in the city,” Kalonzo and Moi implored.

Ng’ondi thanked Kalonzo and Moi for joining the bandwagon of leaders supporting his candidature and as Azimio’s candidate for the Speaker’s post in the elections scheduled for next week on Thursday, September 15th, 2022.
