Model UDA nominations propel Waithaka to high popularity in Makadara as Aladwa fortunes hang in the balance

Nairobi, Tuesday 26th April, 2022: The winner of the Makadara constituency United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations Anthony Waithaka’s popularity has continued to sky rocket following the model nomination exercise that was conducted at the constituency on April 14th, 2022.

The nomination exercise had all participants go home a satisfied lot on the credibility of the process which was by far, the most peaceful and free and fair in the country with no cases of violence and or elections irregularities.

During the nominations, none of the competitors raised any complaints and all the three poll losers joined hands in support of Waithaka. His popularity has grown following the credible process which brought rise to no disgruntle.

“The UDA nominations in Makadara were clean. This was the most free and fair nominations in the entire country and the people of Makadara have set a good example to the rest of the country by ensuring that only the voice of the people is reflected in the elections process,” Waithaka said moments after being declared the winner.

Thanking the residents of Makadara for a peaceful exercise, Waithaka said that maturity in politics had been given a chance and called on the rest of the country to emulate Makadara in letting elections take their natural course.

While the UDA brigade in Makadara conducted a credible process, their competitors have continued to fight over allegations of election malpractice.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries in Makadara was married with vote irregularities, intimidation from local party honchos and claims of rampant rigging. These cases of malpractice have being blamed on Waithaka’s main challenger the incumbent MP George Aladwa who is also the ODM Nairobi branch chairman.

Aladwa is accused of having a hand in the Makadara ODM party primaries where he allegedly tried to influence the outcome of the party primaries while he himself feared to face the voters and instead went for direct nomination.

In Viwandani ward, MP Aladwa is believed to has successfully rigged out the current Member of the County Assembly (MCA) David Wambua Mbithi in favour of ODM nominated MCA Emapet Kemunto. Mbithi, who is said to have refused to part with a bribe for the legislator was clearly the popular candidate as shown by recent scientific opinion poll that was conducted by the party. Demonstrations where witnessed all over Viwandani and Makadara against Aladwa.

In Makongeni ward, Aladwa tried to rig in his ally Geofrey Wauna but the current MCA and Nairobi County Assembly Minority whip in Peter Imwatok was smart for Aladwa. Imwatok who has mastered Aladwa’s tactics employed a counter strategy that worked well against Aladwa and his allies. Aladwa allies in Makongeni are now against him accusing him for not doing enough even after taking their money.

Coupled by the fact that ODM did not hold party primaries in Maringo and Harambee wards, supporters of the popular candidates who had used their resources to campaign and to allegedly bribe Aladwa for favours have now ganged up against him saying he all along knew what was bound to happen yet he continued to pocket their money.

One popular candidate in Maringo has vowed to actively campaign for Aladwa’s competitor if the legislator fails to reimburse his money running into millions.

A spot check on how Aladwa has used CDF money in the last five years is another major factor that has led to Aladwa’s dip in popularity in Makadara.

While all other MPs have continually given out bursaries to their constituents in the last five years to even twice a year, constituents of Makadara have not been receiving bursary money.

In Makadara, a suspicious bursary allocation of 54 million was made to a driving school in the financial year 2019 yet no one in Makadara attended any driving training sponsored by CDF for the last five years. This money is believed to have fraudulently gone into the pockets of the MP and his cronies.

The unpopularity of Aladwa is now evident. A walk down the streets of Makadara you will be met with anti-Aladwa talk from among people who naturally, and by virtue of party affiliation would support him but have vowed not to vote for him mostly because of his anti development tendencies and his coning nature from those even who are poor than him.
