Heckling Mama Ida Odinga is disrespecting women of Kenya-Mworia.

The Devolution Empowerment Party (BUS party) Mount Kenya East regional coordinator Lucy Mworia yesterday condemned the events that unfolded in Meru county on Saturday, March 26, when the Azimio la Umoja Presidential flag-bearer Raila Odinga’s wife, mama Ida Odinga, was heckled by a hostile crowd despite being an invited guest at the Catholic Women’s Association Prayer Day event.

Lucy Mworia, the Isiolo North parliamentary candidate said that it was improper to disrespect Ida who innocently went to the women’s event and Mama Ida deserves respect. “A visitor deserves respect. Mama Ida did not deserve that treatment. There was no need of heckling her because she innocently went to the event as an invited guest,” Mworia said.“Coming from fellow women and in a church event, it was very unfortunate. It is the church which is preaching about unity and peace so it is very unfair,” she said.

Mama Ida Odinga, while gracing the Catholic Women Association prayer day in Meru County, tried to make her remarks but the hostile crowd refused to be addressed by her. “I’m a mother like you,” Ida stated but the crowd grew hostile with heckles and chants filling the air. “Please, let’s hear the speaker,” the emcee was heard trying to calm down the crowd in vain. “What happened in Meru was uncalled for especially because Ida Odinga was just invited as guest in the event. Why invite a guest then heckle them?” Mworia said.

The hostile reception that was accorded to Mama Ida Odinga has elicited varied reactions on social media.

When Mama Ida took the stage to give her speech, hushed murmurs which had started, soon erupted into full-blown heckling which became louder than her speech.
