Former spokesman to governor Sonko Ben Mulwa joins race for Nairobi governorship.

Ben Mulwa the former spokesman  to deposed Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has thrown his hat into the ring for the City’s gubernatorial battle.

This was confirmed by former Vice President (VP) and the Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka saying that they were keen on fielding a candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial contest.

As a party am aware of a young man called Mulwa is the only one who has so far declared his interest to contest on a Wiper party ticket,” said Kalonzo.

Since of the promulgation of the new constitution which brought in the Governor’s post Wiper has never fielded a gubernatorial candidate in Nairobi and if Mulwa goes all the way to the ballot he will be the first.

Mulwa was at the office of the county government for a period of three years, from September 2017 to December 2020- before Sonko’s reign came to an end following his impeachment by Members of the County Assembly.

Given that Wiper which was in the One Kenya Alliance joined the Azimio la Umoja movement, Mulwa might be forced to be part of a joint nomination with other aspirants who are in parties drawn from the coalition.

Similarly, Wiper or OKA might enter into an agreement with Azimio just like the 2013 Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) where the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) produced the candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race while gave the running-mate.

In the elections, Dr Evans Kidero of ODM was CORD’s Nairobi gubernatorial candidate deputized by Wiper’s Jonathan Mueke where their combination saw them win.

Aspirants under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance (OKA) coalition seeking for the movement’s ticket are the current Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia, wealthy business woman Agnes Kagure from the Jubilee Party wing.

Westlands Member of Parliament (MP) Tim Wanyonyi brother to Ford Kenya partly leader Moses Wetangula and his Makadara counterpart former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa from ODM with Ben Mulwa being the only one from Wiper.

Other’s are former Housing assistant minister Bishop Dr Margaret Wanjiru of Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja of the Amani National Congress (ANC) who are both allied to the Kenya Kwanza alliance
