I want a job not a wheelbarrow” cries a man as he chains himself on DP Ruto’s gate.

A man alleging to be the son of deceased Busia North legislator Fredrick Oduya Oprong, who passed away in 2019, on Tuesday chained himself to Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee House Annex office gate decrying unemployment.

According to multiple reports, the man identified as Lawrence Amuke Oprong chained his waist to the premise’s gate using a chain and padlock citing that the DP had promised him a job but had failed to deliver on his promise.
He consequently stated that he would only leave the premises after DP Ruto personally addressed his grievances.
Initial attempts to remove Oprong proved unsuccessful but a squad of 20 plainclothes police officers managed to do so after breaking the chain with a hacksaw.
Oprong was then taken to Central Police Station where he was released after recording a statement. He faces charges of causing disturbance in a public space.
The DP’s office, through spokesperson Emmanuel Talam, has since come out to say that it will address the matter aired by Oprong.

“DP has sorted the issue and asked his office to handle the young man’s case,” Talam said in a statement.
