Dagoretti North Politician Ben Shilibwa mourns the death of Obulala hit singer Dr Joel Liyayi

The Luhya music fraternity has lost a nother music icon yet again.

Obulala hit singer Mr Joel Liyayi has passed on.The Kawangware based singer breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

Many Kenyans have paid a glowing tribute to the fallen artist terming his demise as a huge blow to the music industry.

While eulogising the artist, city politician said that the demise of Mr Joel Liyayi aka Ovulala is a big loss to lovers oflocal music.

“I personally mourn my friend Mr Joel Liyai. Ovulala as he was fondly known brought joy and happiness to many and especialky with his music that were rich in messages of unity. I want to encourage artists to emulate the fallen hero by producing music that unite us and enrich us culturally” Mr Shilibwa said.

Mr Shilibwa contested the Dagoretti North seat on Anc in 2017 and lost by a whisker to the incumbent Mp Hon Simba Arati.
Shilibwa is keen on contesting for the same seat again in 2022.

Through his own initiative, Mr Shilibwa donated food and facilitated the transportation of the late Joel Liyai aka Vulala by donating 3 vans to ferry mourners and the corpse to Hamisi/Musunji village Vihiga county where the departed artist shall be laid to rest.
