Former SONU leader castigates rowdy UON students who burnt University property

Shame on UoN students who torched university premises -Former SONU boss Famba NC Famba *

Last night March 9th 2020 irate UoN students went on rampage and destroyed property worthy millions of shillings.

The comrades were protesting the inhumane terror visited on one of their own by a local security company contracted to guard the premises. The victim succumbed to death hence the mayhem.

In a long and detailed statement released by Hon Famba Nc Famba an alumni of the University, Hon Famba termed the act an insult to humanity and an affluent to academic progress in Kenya.

Below find his statement.

I served in Sonu leadership as Vice Chairman (Academic Affairs)with Tedd Munovi,Makokha Michael Wanjala ,Michael Koome Mburugu,Mwengi Mutuse ,Murage Njagagua,Brian Lishenga, Charles Opata ,James Oluoch among others. We organised many protests including several that helped kick Moi out of power, one that brought back SONU in 2003,one that led to increment of HELB loans to students, one that protested the killing of Dr Odhiambo Mbai and several in support of constitutional reforms .

A number of those protests were peaceful while some were violent. In all those, there was one cardinal rule and our predecessors like Wafula Buke,David Ole Sankok,Irungu Kang’ata, Kabando wa Kabando, Kenyatta Otieno, Sylvester O Nyadero and many others will attest that torching university property was a taboo and was considered a curse!

Whatever is happening UoN is criminal. This is against the basic principles of student activism. They should have targeted those who led to the death of the student or barricaded roads to have their message reach the public, but not torching university premises. Bure kabisa. Shame!

Kenyans of all walks of life have condemned the uncouth behaviour exhibited by the UoN learners
