14 months to the next general elections, Clamour for change has engulfed the calm Vihiga county. Vihiga County has 272,409 registered voters and 548 polling stations. It also has 5 constituencies. The county has had two women reps with Hon Kedogo being the first while the current woman MP Hon Adagala is the second. Adagala is keen on defending her seat but several candidates are hitting the ground running with the sole aim of upsetting the status quo. one such candidate is Madam Winnie Vugutsa Majani.

Winnie Majani or simply Madam president a name given to her after she took part in the Miss president reality show. The show revolved around women with exemplary community projects and passionate for bringing social change. It is this show that ignited the fire in her to even want to serve humanity and especially her home county better.

Away from her busy schedule as a banker in the city, Winnie finds time to visit her rural folks in Vihiga county where she helps in articulating and finding solutions to some of the problems bedeviling them.

Usawa Mashinani

One key way of ensuring our people are emancipated from slavery is to ensure that they are all empowered. This can only be achieved through what Madam Winnie terms as Usawa Mashinani.

Through her Usawa Mashinani clarion call, she has managed to hold pep talks, mini harambees with mama mbogas, Chama mamas, Boda Boda riders, etc where besides giving them business tips, she has also encouraged them to be organized and position themselves for capital from the many financial institutions.

” To help mitigate on the effects of marginalization and equality in our county, we must make deliberate efforts to empower our people. I believe it can be done and we must do it”

While appreciating the fact that leadership entails serving all without segregating based on gender, religion, class or creed, the aspiring Vihiga county woman Mp has created a bond with women. She spends time with them getting to understand their challenges and helping them in coming up with solutions which will eventually help better lives in Vihiga county.

But is she really ready for the daunting task ahead as next Woman MP?

The more I traverse my beautiful county Vihiga, the more I encounter apeople that are hungry for a new beginning. They know what servant leadership is. They actually understand the mandate of a Woman Representative as opposed to 5 years back when it looked like a ceremonial seat without a budget. Always refreshing. Together we forge ahead.

Two days ago, the incoming Vihiga county woman Mp celebrated her birthday and instead of enjoying it at the comfort of her Nairobi home, she took time and mingled freely with the youth in Luanda subcounty.

I decided to celebrate my birthday with a team of youth from Luanda Villa Football Club in Luanda constituency. We managed to raise funds towards the second division team that is doing quite well

As the 2022 general election approaches, Madam Winnie Majani is so far upsetting the status quo. She is resonating well with both the youths, the older generation, and the first-time voters pretty well. Her usawa mashinani message too is resonating well with the masses.

”From her background as a banker and a finalist at the Miss President Reality tv show, Winnie Majani is set to make a good woman Mp for Vihiga county, she is eloquent and can articulate matters affecting Vihigans well unlike some remarkable fellows whose contribution on the Hansard will return nil results” Mercy Khavere from Gimaragwa said of the aspiring woman mp.

Could Madam Winnie Majani be the missing link for the Vihiga county woman Mp Position? Time will tell.
