Arguably the most powerful person in Kenya after Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, Dr. Francis Atwoli is both loved, feared, and revered in equal measure.
The COTU secretary general yesterday received a rare fete when a road in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area was named after him.
The Nairobi County Government named a road after Atwoli, in a ceremony led by the acting governor, Ann Kananu alongside other county officials.
“I want to thank the leadership of Nairobi County, under @annkananu_ , for this great honor and recognition of services to the Government of the day, the community, and Worker’s at large,” Atwoli said.
The road in Kileleshwa, near Kenya High School, was formerly called Dik Dik Road.
But in a twist of events, some malicious Kenyans took to social media and started spreading rumors that the road sign had been vandalized.
In a swift rejoinder, both Dr Atwoli and @cotu official have disputed the claims.
• “Nothing was removed to make you happy, don’t waste your time celebrating fake news! God’s wish is Paramount,” Atwoli said.
Kenyans from all walks of life have thanked the county government of honoring Dr Atwoli while he is still alive.
However a renowned blogger Robert Alai had different views on the same and upon speaking his mind on twitter, the flamboyant trade unionist had zero chills for the blogger.
